Senasungala Viharaya is an ancient rock-cave Buddhist temple perched on Senasungala Hill near Meegahakiula in the Badulla District. The shrines white stupa, drip-ledge caves, and faded Kandyan-era murals create a serene setting amid forested slopes.
The temple lies about 22 km northeast of Badulla; drive or take a tuk-tuk on the BadullaMahiyangana (A26) road to Meegahakiula, then follow signposted village lanes and walk the final 300 m up the stone steps.
Local lore says the Buddha rested here on his journey to Mahiyangana, making the hill a minor Solosmasthana site for pilgrims. The summit offers sweeping views across paddy fields to the distant Knuckles range.
