Maduru Oya Reservoir is a vast and scenic man-made lake located within the Maduru Oya National Park in the eastern part of the Badulla District. It plays a crucial role in irrigation and supports diverse wildlife, making it both a functional and natural landmark.
The reservoir can be accessed via the Mahiyangana�Dehiattakandiya road, about 35km from Mahiyangana town. It�s best reached by car or jeep, especially when entering through the national park area.
Constructed as part of the Mahaweli Development Project, Maduru Oya Reservoir is surrounded by protected forest, attracting elephants, birds, and other wildlife. It's also known for its stunning sunsets and peaceful landscapes ideal for eco-tourism and nature photography.
