The Halaba Iron Bridge, built in 1919 during British colonial times, is a unique iron bridge located in Badulla District. Known for its mysterious construction in a remote area, it spans the Uma Oya River and features distinctive ironwork supported by stone piers.
You can reach Halaba Iron Bridge by traveling about 30 km from Ella via WellawayaEllaKumbalwela Highway, with the last few kilometers accessible by foot or a 4WD vehicle due to rough terrain.
The Halaba Iron Bridge is about 113 meters long and made entirely of iron with wooden planks. It is believed to have been mistakenly constructed in Halaba instead of its intended location. The bridge is accessed via rugged paths, so visitors should wear sturdy footwear and exercise caution.
