Sthreepura Cave, located in Hakgala, near Nuwara Eliya, is an ancient cave system linked to the Ramayana legend. According to mythology, this is where King Ravana hid Princess Sita in an underground chamber for extra protection during her captivity.
Sthreepura Cave is about 1012 km from Nuwara Eliya and can be reached by car or tuk-tuk via the WelimadaHakgala road, followed by a short hike to the cave area.
Locals believe the caves once connected to other key Ramayana sites like Seetha Amman Kovil and Ravana Falls. The name Sthreepura translates to City of Women, referencing the legends surrounding Sitas stay.
