About Andagala

Andagala Archaeological Site, located in Tirappane village near Gomarankadawala in the Trincomalee District, is home to well-preserved ancient brick ruins atop a rocky plateau. The site includes two main structures likely used for Buddhist worship, possibly a Bodhighara and another sacred building.

It is situated 20 Km from Nuwara Eliya Welimada road which can be accessed by Turn off near 96th Km post.

Quick Facts

Declared a protected monument in 2013 (Gazette No. 1823/73), the site features unique architectural elements such as curved brick handrails, multiple entrances, and solid construction techniques. It remains an important yet lesser-known archaeological site managed by Sri Lanka�s Department of Archaeology.
