Nagadeepa Purana Viharaya is a revered Buddhist temple located on Nainativu Island in the Jaffna District. It is one of the sixteen sacred Solosmasthana, believed to be visited by the Buddha during his second visit to Sri Lanka to resolve a conflict between Naga kings.
To reach the temple, travel to Jaffna, then take a bus or tuk-tuk to Kurikadduwan jetty, followed by a 20-minute ferry ride to Nainativu Island where the temple is located.
Nagadeepa is a major pilgrimage site, especially during full moon (Poya) days. The temple features a serene stupa and sacred Bodhi tree and stands near a Hindu kovil, reflecting the island's spiritual harmony.
