About Pareiyan falls

Pareiyan Ella is a hidden 14?m high cascade on the Menik River, set amidst pepper plantations and rugged terrain�its name derived from the Sinhala word for �pigeon,� as its rock formation resembles a bird. Just about 200?m downstream, another taller waterfall, locally called Dunhinda Ella (around 30�40?m high), adds to the allure and provides an adventurous two-tier waterfall experience.

How to Get There

From Badalkumbura, take the B35 road toward Buttala, turn off onto Old Gamsabha Road near Atala, then trek about 1�2?km through jungle and plantations to reach the falls .

Nestled in a remote jungle gorge, Pareiyan Ella is accessible only via a rugged 500�1,000?m hike and features dramatic rock formations and deep, non-swimmable pools. The site is best visited in dry seasons, with slippery and hazardous conditions warning against bathing during heavy rain. Its remote location and local signage offer a serene but challenging nature escape.
