Horton Plains is a protected national park in the central highlands of Sri Lanka, known for its rich biodiversity and scenic beauty. It features cloud forests, grasslands, and dramatic cliffs like World's End. The area is ideal for nature walks, birdwatching, and wildlife spotting.
Horton Plains is easily reached from Nuwara Eliya, about 32km away by car or tuk-tuk. The nearest train station is Ohiya, around 10km from the park entrance.
Horton Plains is the only national park in Sri Lanka located in the hill country, sitting over 2,000 meters above sea level. It's home to rare species like the sambar deer and the elusive Horton Plains slender loris. The park is also the source of major rivers like the Mahaweli, Kelani, and Walawe.
