Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi is one of the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Sri Lanka.
Devotees visit daily to offer flowers, oil lamps, and prayers under the sacred tree.
Its spiritual atmosphere and historical legacy make it a must-visit in Anuradhapura.
Located in the Mahamevnawa Gardens, Anuradhapura Sacred City; easily reachable by foot or tuk-tuk.
Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi is the oldest living tree in the world with a known planting date (288 BC).
It grew from a sapling of the original Bodhi tree in India under which the Buddha attained enlightenment.
It was brought to Sri Lanka by Sangamitta Theri, daughter of Emperor Ashoka.
