Sigiriya, also known as Lion Rock, is an ancient rock fortress located in the northern Matale District near Dambulla. Built by King Kashyapa (477�495 AD), it is famed for its dramatic setting, ancient frescoes, and the Mirror Wall. Sigiriya is easily accessible from Dambulla (about 20km) by bus, car, or tuk-tuk. The nearest major city is Kandy, about 90km away. Most travelers visit Sigiriya as a day trip from Dambulla or Kandy.
